You Are A Work In Progress

“You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously”- Sophia Bush

I do not want to seem confusing, I want it to be understood that for me, Sophia’s quote means that we need to understand that we are where we want to be in life but that does not mean we are not where we should be for now.

There are many times in life you may feel like you should be further than where you are based on societies norms and rules. However, there is no set time to complete anything.

You are a work in progress quote with girl on bridge

Stay motivated, stay determined and most importantly continue to be strong willed because each path is different with multiple finish lines in life.

Understand that though you are a work in progress, this does not mean you are not great at other things.

Related Post: How To Reach Your Goals

Individuals may do well in their career aspirations but struggle to build social supports. You must realize that being a “work in progress” speaks volumes to others about the level you hold yourself to!

I had a co-worker who actually said they had nothing they wanted to work on to better themselves.

You should never get to a point in your life, where you feel you have no room to grow in any areas. You not only stagnate yourself but also limit your mindset to where you are in that time.

What is something you would like to work on? What is something you have mastered lately?

I agree with that quote and will use and remember it henceforth. It is hard not to compare yourself to friends and contemporaries when you feel you should be farther than where you are. I try to remember Ecclesiastes : “a time for everything” and “the race not being to the swift…” Even worse as a woman when society/culture is hinting or outrightly preaching marriage at all costs and making you feel inferior for being unmarried. Sigh.

I definitely need to work on learning to say no to things and being confident in my decisions. You’re completely right, we should all have things we want to work on for ourselves, even if they seem tiny, there’s always room for improvement!

This is a lovely sentiment. I think there is a strong pressure in out culture to be perfect and not make mistakes, which can prevent us from moving forwards and trying new things. It can also lead us to unfairly criticise ourselves and compare ourselves negatively with others. I wrote about this here: https://www.benraththerapy.com/single-post/2017/10/17/Im-Not-Perfect-and-Thats-OK

    I’ve always liked this affirmation:
‘It is good and safe for me to express my abilities, for through me the universe is expressing itself’

This is so inspirational! Especially this time of the year when it’s so easy to give up on yourself. I want to work on patience next year – I am so bad at it. I always try to remind myself of a caterpillar – if it didn’t have enough patience, the world would never know the beauty of a butterfly! 🙂

I do think we should always be working on ourselves, whether in our career ambitions or even in our hobbies. Sometimes it’s going for that promotion and others, it’s making time to enjoy something simple like catching up on a good book or discovering new music.

Really, societal norms make it hard for many people in our time to see themselves as a work in progress. And it is also very important to not hit a Plateau in one’s personal development space.

Nice post! I want to work on being nice and positive towards everyone. The other night my friends and I were talking about how one of our other friends never hangs out anymore. What I wish I would have said was that maybe she is not feeling well lately and that we should give her another chance or just something positive towards her instead of agreeing with them. Thanks for this in our Ginger post!
