Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and it’s time to do something new and different; this year we are all about self love and self care. The year 2020 left us with a poor mental state but NOW we are back and ready to love ourselves harder than ever!
Valentine’s Day is the season of love, positivity, and gift giving! One person we always seem to forget during the holidays is ourselves.
I have some of the best memories of Valentine’s Day when I was younger and none of them involved things I did for me to show me how much I loved ME!
If you were like me read on for some fun and easy ways to practice self care and self love this Valentine’s Day.
14 Ways To Practice Self Care And Self Love This Valentine’s Day
Get A Manicure/Pedicure
On my vision board this year I made a goal of making self care my forefront and one of the most relaxing self care activities I do is get a mani pedi. It is 60 minutes of having mini massages and leaving out looking and feeling better than you came in. If you follow me on social media, you see I occasionally have done my own mani pedi and use a foot soaker/massager I purchased here!
Take Yourself On A Date
You do not need anyone to do for you what you can do for yourself. Do not allow this day to determine the amount of love you get! Self love and self care are easier said than done however going to the movies and out to dinner is simply enough. It can be difficult to see couples out as well so you can go on another day or at non peak times.
Have a Self Care Day
Practice self care and self love this Valentine’s Day by taking a bubble bath, reading a book and listening to some relaxing music. Whatever brings you joy and peace is what you should do for yourself today!
Detox Social Media
Though I have harped on this before (read How To Detox Social Media) it is even more important this Valentines Day. Some people experience low moods relating to seeing couples posting certain things on social media; you do not have to be that person! There are so many other things you could be doing!
Have A Movie Night
What better way to practice self care than to do nothing and entertain yourself. There are so many things to watch on Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus (you can read my list of go to’s here) that will keep you entertained all day! Grab some popcorn, wine, fuzzy socks and dim the lights for an awesome movie night!
Get A Massage
This has to be one of my personal favorites! Every holiday I possibly can I am laying on a massage table getting those kinks worked out. I can promise you, there is nothing more rewarding you can do for you than to allow someone else to care for you! I find many good deals on Groupon that often include chocolate covered strawberries , wine or a discount on my next massage.
Create A Vision Board
If you have not done so already now is the perfect time to create your vision board for the year! Creating a vision board is a great way to practice self love and keep you aligned with your goals throughout the year. If you need ideas you can check out my vision board here!
Knock Off Items On Your Bucket List
Normally the excuse is that you do not have enough time or motivation to get things done that you have always wanted to do. I challenge you to do things this Valentines Day you can mark off of your bucket list!
I created a goal of reading 2-3 books a month to decrease the amount of time I spend on social media and watching the news. I highly recommend forming a habit of reading for even a few moments a day for relaxation. It is a great escape from reality for me.
Go For A Hike
If you live in an area near a trail take the day to go on a hike. It is a great time to spend reflecting on what you would like this year and take in the sights. Of course it is great for our health as well so it is a genuine win-win.
Call A Friend
There is nothing better than reaching out to your support system! There may be a friend you have that does not have anything planned for the day and would love to spend time with someone they know cares for them. Remember Valentine’s Day is not just for intimate partners!
Sign Up For A Class
Go to your local library, museum or look in the news for classes being offered to take. A great way to practice self care is to increase your knowledge, let loose and freely learn about areas of interest.
Finish A Project
If you are anything like me you occasionally have too many tasks and not enough time in the day! Taking the day to show your home some love is a great way to practice self love this Valentine’s Day.
Journal, Yoga or Meditate
I speak often of the importance of mindfulness techniques to balance your mental health and achieve peace from symptoms throughout your day. You can check those posts out here! Here is also the journal I purchased for this year (at least thus far)!
I hope you found some activities you can do for the upcoming holiday and maybe even after! I am excited to not only show love to others but also to myself!
