Just Call Me Jess

Mood Disorders and Mindfulness

Daily Motivation

Thanks for tuning in for another dose of daily motivation!

Your quote for the week is:

“Don’t be afraid of being outnumbered. Eagles fly alone. Pigeons flock together”- Unknown

I want this quote to resonate with you all personally and professionally. In both areas, you must realize that you will need to follow your own path for you to truly, happily become successful. You do not have to go with the popular chain of events that others follow.

It is not required to go to school, work, have kids, get married, and have a house with a white picket fence. There are plenty of people that take charge of their lives and go another route.

The only reason we rarely hear about those individuals is because they did not follow societies norms. They are (almost) always satisfied in life, until someone tells them not to be.

How to reach your goals? Read about it here!

If the individuals who pushed this “one size fits all” agenda knew how damaging it is to our children, our families, our elders they would not do it as often. However, the cycle continues.

I have been known to go against the grain myself however I did follow the “fairy tale” sequence of events, as I like to call it.

I graduated high school, went to college, got married, went to graduate school and etc. What is beautiful about my path is that it is not the only one.

“Don’t be afraid of being outnumbered. Eagles fly alone. Pigeons flock together” quote with girl on rock for daily motivation

It worked for me! Throughout my journey I was an eagle and I want the same for you!

How can I be an eagle, Jess?

Make your OWN goals. Need help with that? No problem, as always, I got you!

Here, I give tips on how to set goals. Overall, you need to make sure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, and Time sensitive goals; otherwise known as SMART goals.

Be sure to start with your long-term goals and make short term goals from that. I normally post them where they can be seen each morning and I break my goals down to the month. Some people do yearly goals on National Resolution Day. I like to see my progress, as it motivates me to keep going.

Am I pigeon Jess?

Depends on your happiness.

Do you-for the most part- wake up with a purpose? Do you take pride in what you do? If you are waking up thinking “back to this place” or “I just want to stay in bed”. I would question whether you are happy doing what you are doing, and I would likely ask why are you doing it!

Most clients tell me due to family roles, “needing to pay bills” and “there is nothing else” as to why they are unhappily participating in that line of work or path.

Sometimes you just need to be reminded that you do have options. Although you may not like the options you always have a choice.

You could work or go to college. You could be a bully or be a friend. You could be a pigeon or an eagle.

Which are you today?

I find that keeping a daily journal, setting an intention in a morning yoga/meditation/concentration/journaling session helps a lot with having a purpose in every day. Good tip about breaking down long-term goals into smaller, more conceivable targets.

Nice Post Jess 🙂 Reading this morning time feels so good. I would call myself Eagle 😉 I am different in my every friend circle. Sometimes I do feel bad as things did not turn out as planned. But, I feel good to be different. Rest of them are doing the same thing that everyone else does.

I think we are all here with a mission to complete. What is life without purpose? And in achieving that purpose we should ignore the pull backers. well written.

I have to admit I think I’m right in the middle of the two. I often work alone but sometimes I need the reassurance of those around me.

It’s not that I just go with the flow, but it just happened that I really did want to go to school, get married, have a son and work. I’m a pigeon unintentionally.

What an inspiring post! I agree with a lot of what you said, we don’t need to be like everyone else. I hate it when society tries to fit everyone in a one size fits all lifestyle. It doesn’t happen. And I hate the pressures that go with that attempt.

I am glad that it all worked out. Personally, I have pushed my children away from following the standard paradigm of school, college, job, marriage, kids etc. A couple of years ago, my youngest son of 20 came to me wondering what he should do with his life. So I bought a one-way ticket to Lisbon, Portugal, and a backpack and said, “You want an education? Go travel the world.” He left Canada a month later and backpacked solo around Europe and Africa for two years. He now lives on his own in Germany studying musical composition at Dresden U.
