You wake and the first thing you do is? If you are like many others (including me) you have some bad morning habits that you need to quit in order to start your day on the right foot.
When you quit these habits you will notice an improvement in performance, productivity and your mental health!
Let’s reflect together and see if there is a way to avoid these bad morning habits from continuing to negatively impact our day.
7 bad morning habits to avoid doing when you first wake up
Checking your phone
You should not check your phone until after your shower or the first 30 minutes of waking! Your mind should be alert and aware of what it is taking in at the beginning of the day.
When checking your phone before you have become fully awake in the morning you are setting yourself up for stress and negativity. Most people review their work email before they get there or scroll social media and begin the early morning comparison game.
Your first thought of the day is negative and guess what your day is? Negative! Watch what you manifest for your day. It is easy to think that your day will be similar to that of the day before but it is easier to demand greatness from the day instead!
Don’t go back to sleep as you have an alarm for a reason and need to use it for such! If you hit the snooze alarm and go back to sleep you will actually wake more tired than before (if you wake up on time!). Each time you hit the snooze button you are resetting your sleep cycle causing excess tiredness and grogginess.
Thinking of negative “what ifs”
“What if I mess up” “What if they don’t like me” “what if…” do you see how endless that could become? To think of negative things before your day even starts creates an increase in anxiety, stress and depression.
Instead be intentional about thinking positively and demanding that your day follow suit. Remember to manifest what you want!
Skipping your affirmations
Following the point above you cannot skip your affirmations to gain the positivity and mindset you need to function throughout the day. Here are a few to get you started and help you avoid negative moods throughout the day.
Those of you who have followed me on social (follow me here) know that I struggled for so long to cut back on my coffee intake. I would start the day, eyes barely open, and turn on the Kerig.
The bad morning habit that developed was less water intake, poor breakfast choice and bloat! Not to mention my anxiety would increase which would create a crash later in the day as i have not prepared myself properly throughout the day. I have not completely given up coffee but I have limited my intake and drink a bottle of water before I put anything else in my body.
Oh that poor energy you will have throughout the day without your breakfast! The risk for elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol and poor appetite increases when you skip breakfast! How often have you had physical illnesses that affected your mental health? This is how easily it happens! Simply not eating breakfast increases your risk for poor health overall!
