Need help achieving your goals? I have outlined 5 tips to achieve your goals successfully.
We have all heard it before (or said it ourselves), “I have my short and long-term goals mapped out” but you never see them make stride- big or small- towards accomplishing those goals.
One of the easiest ways to fail at reaching your goal is to never try. What is the point of having a goal and no steps to get there? I have laid out 5 tips that have helped me reach my goals thus far in life.
Tip #1 To Achieve Your Goals
Your long term and short-term goals need to align with one another.
If my long term goal is to purchase a home in 10 years, then my short term goal needs to be to save $X,xxx in 5 years for a down payment.
Another example would be for weight loss if I want to lose 50 lbs. by the end of the year then my short term would be to change my eating habits and begin being more active.

So often I see people have long term goals to “be a millionaire” but short term goals are to “travel every year” see what I mean?
If I want to be a millionaire then my short term goal needs to be to become as educated as possible in my field and begin investing in myself.
A good example would be: “My long term goal is to buy a home”. Your short term goals would need to be: “Repair my credit” “Research homes and chose my style” “Budget and save $X “.
Basically a long term goal is your overall want and your short term goals are how you are going to achieve it.
Tip #2 To Achieve Your Goals
If you do not meet your deadline it is okay.
I have been a victim of this many times when it comes to losing weight. If I did not lose the 10 pounds I wanted to for the month, then I chuck everything up to a loss.
Instead, I need to notice that I did not have to jump to get into my jeans or I didn’t lose my breath going up my stairs. In short, every stride is important. A temporary setback in plans is okay BUT you must still have plans.

Tip #3 To Achieve Your Goals
Be patient.
Man, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that! From my education to my job to personal things, I like things done when I want them done!
I had to realize that everything happens when it is supposed to. If I did not get this job, it was not meant for me and I needed to patiently wait for MY job.
Tip #4 To Achieve Your Goals
Keep your goals updated and in plain sight.
I have my goals written on a draw erase board in my office. Every day, I am able to view them, remember what I need to do to get there, and take it day by day until I reach it.
Tip #5 To Achieve Your Goals
Cut off non-supporters.
Let me be clear on this tip. A non-supporter is a person who continuously “throws salt” on your dreams, belittles your strides to accomplishing your goals and does not support you in staying focused to achieve your goal.
Cut those “friends” off. I am sure you pictured someone in your mind when reading the description.
The person who evaluates your goals, gives you tips to improve them and holds you accountable is a supporter, you just may not like criticism. It is fine to speak with individuals and let them know how you like to be supported in your strive for greatness.
As they say a “closed mouth don’t get fed”, you cannot be upset about how individuals are “supporting” you. You have to inform them of what works for you!
As always remember I am here to help, reach out!
I loved this! I need to start putting my goals in plain sight where I can see them every day like #4 suggests. I think that will really help me achieve my goals faster. Thanks for the tip!

I like the post. Really helpful
Thank you!
This is a really helpful list. I really like that you point out that long and short goals have to be compatible; I think so many people never connect those dots and don’t supplement their big goals with small, realistic ones. I also can’t agree more with removing the people that “throw salt” on dreams and plans. Great post! 🙂
Thank you for reading!
So simple, but so effective! As humans, we get so wrapped up in the many facets of life that we forget the simplicity of how things work – like achieving things you want in life.
Exactly! Thank you for reading
This is a great helpful article you have written, will definitely help me achieving the goals I wanted.
Thank you
Making long and short term goals align is key! It makes the long term goal easier to achieve. Set backs are hard, but you are so right to keep going!
That’s true! Thank you for reading
This was the perfect post for me to come across, as I have been feeling a little despondent with reaching my goals lately. Thank you for inspiring me to keep on going!
I’m glad I could do that for u! Thank you for reading
Great tips. Can’t wait to read the workbook with even more great tips.
Hopefully will be out by next year
Goal setting really is so important and rewarding. Breaking down the bigger goals into smaller manageable goals really gives you a sense of direction. Thanks for the reminders x
Thank you for reading
I love your idea about keeping goals in plain sight and updating them. That could be a total game changer for me.
I agree with everything in this post wholeheartedly – it is so important to differentiate between short term and long term goals. Often, people will see a destination coming a lot faster than it should and taking your time, and relieving yourself of pressure is so important. Thanks for this well-written piece!
this is so timely as we come towards the new year! the key i guess is being consistent and patient!
I love these tips. I especially love number one. In my head I think I knew that, but I have never really though about how much your short term goals should match your long term goals. It makes total sense, but I have not really thought about it like that.
These days we have started preferring blogs over newspaper. We get good info just like what your blog provided. Sharing this blog to my group.
Thank you!
Good thing i read this post, it reminds me to achive my goals easier. I love your tips.
Thank you
Great tips! And excellent point about it being okay if you pass personal deadlines without accomplishing your goal. I do that too and end up feeling like a total failure instead of focusing on how close I actually came to accomplishing my goal.
I agree with all of these! I used to set goals and not even think about how I could reach them. And then I wondered why I never did! It’s so important to constantly keep working towards your goals, little by little, and to adapt the deadlines and goals as you go. Great post!
Thank you for reading!
Thanks for sharing this! For me, #5 is the key! I only want people who cheer on me, not those who put sticks in my wheels!
#2 spoke to me the most. If things aren’t on track you can’t just throw them out the window, dust off and reboot.
I’m glad it spoke to you, thank you for reading
I love the idea of kicking out the non-supporters. It helps. Thank you for sharing.
I am loving this post… and I need improvement with making my goals realistic and aligning my short and long term together. Totally makes sense and will focus on that this year for sure 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
“Cut off non-supporters ” AMEN!
Great post 🙂
I love the way you break down making your short term goals align with your long term ones. Sounds like a great way to work towards accomplishing something you want to make happen in your life.
Wonderful goal tips you gave! I typically use short term and long term goals throughout the year so this will be very helpful to me!
Great 5 tips on how to reach our goal. Totally agree with point 5 where we need to totally cutt off the haters or non supporters. Stay away from them and do not let these people destroy our thoughts.
This is some really great advice on how to reach your goals. I know that I like to make mine so much smaller than I usually do so that I can chip away at them and have small celebrations along the way.
This is a great post! I have trouble with this and will be implementing these great pointers to make it easier for me!
I have been frustrated with myself for not reaching my goal I set for myself last year. Oh well, 2019 is another chance for me to make things right. I will take your advice to heart. Wishing this year will be better.
I definitely agree that writing your goals down in a place you’ll see them helps hold you accountable. I write mine in my planner so I don’t forget what I’m working towards.
The one that is most important for me is number 5. Learning to take a stand for our own goals does sometimes mean releasing people from our circle of familiars – tough sometimes, but necessary!
Review , update and yes be patience are all the imp ingredient to reach the goals !! well defined
Love this! One of my goals this year is to be more consistent with working on and towards my goals! These are some really great tips that could help me do just that. Thank you!
Good luck!
This is such an informative post. This year I am decided to reach my goals. I appreciate everything that inspires me.
That is an awesome mindset to have
Even though I achieved my first long term goal but doing short term goals related to the first term loan is little difficult. But I am sure I will manage it. Since first long term goal I ‘ve achieved now, I can focus on my short term goals
Awesome
Wow! That was amazing! Reaching goals sometimes is hard to do but with tips we/I can make it! Thanks for the help!
No problem!
All are great ideas, especially number five. Do your best to get the people who are aren’t helping you go forward out of the way!
I set goals, but am really bad at setting deadlines. I love how you mention that it’s okay to not meet every deadline. That’s one of the reasons I hated trying to lose weight because I didn’t lose as much as I had wanted. I realized that maybe weight wasn’t a good goal, and instead I should do something like “run every other day” which is easier to control.
Exactly make the goal work for you and your life
I make vision boards. I need to “see” my goals and it makes it easier for me to focus on the ways I need to do to achieve them. Thanks for sharing your tips too.
That’s a great way to stay on top of your goals
So important to have a strategy to reach your goal. Thank you for these tips to move forward and reach our goals!
Thank you for reading
I find #5 to be especially important. I have had a lot of people knocking down my dreams to become a successful food blogger, and it really drags me down and makes me question everything. Just need to tune them out, put my nose to the grindstone, and keep on going!
Alot of times they are trying to knock you down because they do not have the vision or drive you have!
Still working on getting my goals set, this would take time but once I have them set than these tips could a lot of value. Thanks for sharing.
This is what I need. I have set a few goals for 2019 and now I need some tips and strategy to help me reach my goals. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for reading!
This is a very inspiring post. I have my long term and short terms goals. Most importantly, I have them written on my computer and my journal as a reminder. Thanks for sharing.
This is very timely. I just finished writing my goals for 2019 and now, main concern is how to real reach them. Thank you for reminding me to be patient as I tend to get frustrated easily.
I have so many goals right now, lose weight, be successful in business, raise good kids….it makes your head spin. Thanks for the tips!
Great goals, put my tips to good use lol. Thanks for reading
Great post! I love the detailed steps, especially the part about writing your goals out and keeping them in plain sight. I need to do that a bit more. Great ideas!
Thank you
