12 Amazing Self Care Essentials

There is always time to implement self care and to make it easier you should have self care essentials readily available. Taking care of yourself is a priority not an option, though we often forget it!

Isn’t it funny that the thing we all know we should be doing, is the last thing everyone does? Let’s change that today!

I have gathered 12 self care essentials that could help improve your self care practice and enhance your routine! So, let’s jump into it!

12 Amazing Self Care Essentials

Essential Oils

Essential oils are a must have self care essential, I mean it says it in the name! I have a few favorite scents and I have come to realize that i associate them all with an activity and what they are meant for.

For example, when I am writing blog post I have peppermint and rosemary in my diffuser ready to keep me on task while making my room smell amazing! I got my diffuser from Amazon here and found a great deal online for essential oils you can choose from some here.

Books

One way that I not only motivate myself but also remind myself of how great I am is by reading inspirational books. I love to read in general, but on my really chill days I love to pick up my book on quotes from great women or affirmations (that I probably should have been saying all week long lol).

Here is one of my favorites but feel free to rummage through and find what speaks to you to start a healthy reading habit! All it takes is a few minutes a day to relax your mind and take you away for a few moments from what is weighing you down.

Bath Essentials

If you have not been able to take a GOOD and NICE relaxing bubble bath in a while, you are missing out! I like to take a bubble bath now every two weeks!

Courtesy of the quarantine of 2020 I formed many good habits, bubble baths being one of them. I would listen to music on my speaker, place my mask on and let the aroma of the bath soothe me. This is a must to add to your self care essentials that you simple cannot do with out! It’s super affordable and last forever- seriously I have a bottle from April STILL!

Since I am allergic to Aloe Vera (I know crazy right!) I have to be very particular about the products I use. I love these products because I know they are all Aloe free, so I can use to my leisure! Feel free to check out others though, because Aloe has some really amazing benefits!

Be sure to check out my friend Jen’s Self Care Workbook, to help develop your routine, it’s super affordable! The workbook is 17 pages of self care information to include when you should practice self care and a daily self care planner!

Bath Tray

Though I do not have this bath tray as a self care essential item as of yet, it is on my Christmas list from the hubby!

It is so relaxing to even think of the way all of items can be within short reach, rather than stretching to the side of the tub! Here is one I have my eyes on, if you find one that is nicer, comment below!

Mani/Pedi Needs

Who doesn’t need to spend some self care time pampering themselves with a nice mani/pani? If you’re like me you do not always have time to sit for hours waiting on an appointment at a nail salon.

I’m a true believer in: If I can do it I will! It is way more relaxing to do at home anyway, as I can dictate what I want done without the extra cost. I get most of my items from Dollar Tree and save big time, you can check out some of my picks here to add to your list of self care essentials.

Comfy Pajamas/Socks

There is no better way to spend your self care day than in your most comfy of clothes which is why I had to include them in the list of self care essentials. Personally, I could wear shorts and a tee but I know for others the clothes have to be top notch.

Now, my socks are a totally different ball game! I love comfy, fuzzy socks! There is just something about giving yourself a pedicure, moisturizing and sliding on comfy socks as a finishing touch that make me go “ahhh”. Here are some of my favorite pair, if you follow me on Twitter or Snap chat you may have seen my (not so new) pairs being worn!

Weighted Blanket

I have spoke of the benefits of having a weighted blanket before and because they are so great, I decided to include the item again. For my folks that have difficulty relaxing even when you have planned time for yourself, this may be most beneficial.

The weighted blanket adds that sense of security, anxiety reducing, stress relieving feeling that we all could benefit from. You can even choose the size of blanket to best suit you here!

Yoga Mat

If you follow me on social media you know yoga and meditation is my jam. It is super relaxing, helps silence my mind and put me back in the driver seat of my thoughts!

Occasionally the hustle of life can become overwhelming and we all need that moment of Zen. Yoga has amazing benefits you can read about here if you are still on the fence about practicing! A yoga mat is an affordable investment into your new practice and can have multiple uses. I often use it when working on my knees, when working outdoors and when I have kids over. Get yours here!

Meditation Music

As I mentioned above, meditation and yoga often go hand in hand in my self-care routine, which makes meditation music a self-care essential! If you have the ability to go on YouTube and search until you find one that calms you, do so! There are so many to choose from.

For those of you who are particular (like me) or do not have the data to play the music everywhere, a simple download or disc can satisfy those needs.

Music

It is super essential for your self care to have music! The difference between this and meditation music is that this music can be any form that motivates you.

I compiled a list here of motivating songs to improve your moods and empower you for life! It is a great way to dance away the negative vibes and let in some positivity.

Journal

Okay, okay don’t hurt me but I will not get off of my journal fandom!! I would do you a disservice if I were not to mention this amazing self care essential item.

I have many journals I like to use for different reasons. I have one journal for therapy notes, another for thoughts (day to day use) and another for goal setting. I have also used one in the past that was specifically for improving my self care routine, I found it here!

Affirmation Cards

This hidden gem is a perfect self care essential item. I recently learned all about affirmation cards and I have fallen in love with the convenience of affirmation cards.

I have informed you all in previous post about the power of positive thinking and I stand by it! It has the ability to improve your mood, improve your outlook on life and improve your relationships. This is the pack I plan to purchase on my next Amazon haul!

I hope this list makes your self care day a little easier as you can plan your day with all of your self care essentials.

This was an awesome article!! Self care is so important and yet we all fall short of taking the best care of ourselves. Your recommendations are spot-on! Have to get the weighted blanket – adding to my Christmas list. Thank you so much. 🙂

Great tips! I especially love the weighted blanket idea. I don’t have one yet but it is definitely on my list. I also think the idea of diffusing certain essential oils during specific activities to get in the zone. Thank you for this!
